The Chinese government became the first international entity who voluntarily donated P15 million for the relief operations and rehabilitation of the besieged Islamic City of Marawi in the Province of Lanao del Sur.
Chinese Ambassador Zhao Jianhua presented the donation to President Rodrigo Duterte at the Music Room in Malacañang Palace on June 27, 2017. Also present during the presentation of checks are DSWD Secretary Judy Taguiwalo and Health Undersecretary Herminigildo Valle.

According to the Duterte administration, the P15 million check is intended for the rehabilitation of Marawi City. It will augment the resources of the Department of Health (DOH) and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).
The Office of the President (OP) released the following statement after Pres. Duterte received the donations:
"The donation is an example of flourishing partnership between the two countries and their shared commitment towards sustainable peace in the region."
